How to measure angles in photos with an online protractor
An online protractor is the quickest way to find the value of an angle that already appears in a photograph, screenshot, digital drawing or camera image. Instead of guessing visually, align the center and both arms over the figure and read the result in degrees. This guide explains the correct method, when the 3.5× lens helps and how to get a reliable reading on a phone.

Open the photo, place the black point on the vertex, align the blue arm with one side and the red arm with the other. The degree reading appears above the tool immediately.
How to measure an angle in an image
- Open Transferidor Online and choose Photo to select an existing image, or Camera for a live view.
- Keep Preserve enabled and turn on Grid and Guide if you want to see the center and horizontal reference.
- Drag the black V point to the exact point where both sides of the angle meet.
- Drag the blue point until the zero scale and the full arm line up with the first side.
- Drag the red point to the other side. Use the 3.5× lens while moving to check each small tick.
- Read or copy the degrees. If useful, also check the complementary, supplementary and radian values.
Measuring photos, screenshots and drawings
Start with an angle that is clearly visible in the image. For a geometry photo, tilt the phone until the sides of the angle are more parallel to the screen. In a CAD screenshot, diagram or game, use the grid to locate the vertex and leave Snap off for continuous adjustment.
The image stays in your browser. Adjust the Photo opacity control when an object line blends into the grid, guide or protractor scale.
What the 3.5× lens is for
When you drag a red or blue arm, a circular lens appears automatically. It follows the intersection point and shows that area enlarged with the same 0.5° ticks. The lens stays beside the protractor without covering it and moves when the protractor is repositioned.
The lens hides the solid stroke of the arm being dragged while keeping a clear reference and center dot. This lets you align the line with the exact scale edge without confusing the drag point with the line being measured.
Measuring real objects on a phone
For a real object, open the camera, enter fullscreen and rotate the phone to the position that gives the clearest reading. The camera view uses a 720p stream for responsive performance, but final sharpness still depends on the phone camera, lighting and distance.
Keep the phone stable. Transferidor Online detects screen orientation and uses a landscape layout on supported devices. If the camera does not start, check the browser permission and try a secure page or Photo mode.
Tips for an accurate reading
Most errors happen at the center, not on the scale. Drag V to the real intersection. If the photo is tilted, move the whole protractor by its body without changing the endpoints. There is no Select mode to manage: simply drag.
Leave Snap off while positioning. Once the line is aligned, choose 0.5° or 1° Snap to correct small errors. For a technical angle, take a second photo and compare; perspective and parallax can change the reading.
180°, 360°, protractor or ruler
Use 180° for interior angles such as triangle corners. Use 360° for direction differences, part corners, image rotation and reflex angles. The display keeps the current, complementary, supplementary and radian values visible at the same time.
If the question is distance, length or scale, use a ruler. The virtual ruler provides top, bottom, left and right edges, supports phone calibration and displays cm, mm, inches and pixels. Having both tools covers almost any screen or object measurement.
Accuracy checklist
- Check the center before trying to match the scale.
- Align the whole arm, not only one endpoint.
- Use the 3.5× lens for values between small half-degree ticks.
- Keep browser zoom at 100% for ruler calibration.
- Turn Snap off until the final alignment is complete.
- Repeat the measurement to confirm photos with perspective.
Frequently asked questions
Is the image uploaded to a server?
No. Photos, camera frames and drawing work stay in the browser. Closing the page clears the image.
Can I use it with a geometry photo?
Yes. Frame the vertex, reduce opacity if needed and align the three points with the figure.
Does the 3.5× lens calculate a different angle?
No. It is a visual magnifier. The displayed value and calculation still come from the same protractor.
Why does the result change with another photo?
Perspective, distortion and camera position change the projection. Repeat the measurement with the phone parallel to the object plane.
Measure in seconds without installing an app
Transferidor Online combines a virtual protractor, camera, photo, 360° mode, automatic reading and a precision lens on one page. Open the tool, load the image and make the first test: the value appears while you drag.
